Summer is finally here, so it’s time to brighten up hour home and let the sunshine in. The last thing you need this season is dark colours and a dreary, lacklustre atmosphere in your home. The mood in a room can be constantly transformed with colour alone, so what are you waiting for? Here is your Summer interior colour palette straight from the experts at Steve Lively.
Yellow and white
Just using white can really give a space more light and more energy. However, four white walls can get a bit boring and you may want to add a touch of summer vibes. Yellow is definitely the colour to choose, and it complements white wonderfully. We suggest an accent wall – full yellow block or a beautiful floral wallpaper to bring a room into the summer season.
Go bold or go home (literally)
Bold colours are really in this season, and are a great choice for kitchens and bedrooms. ‘Go bold or go home’ means that you have to really commit to these colours to do it right, or you’ll end up with a failed attempt at a makeover. Choose bright walls, bright furniture and even an eye catching rug for a summer style statement. Bold colours we love include reds, greens and blue/purple.
Patterns and prints
Anything goes for SS16 when it comes to patterns and prints. How about a stripy feature wall for a nautical look? Colour clashing cushions and printed sofas and chairs are also a great way to embody this look. You can even update furniture by painting it a bright colour. There is no need for everything to match, take inspiration from oriental design and exotic places.
Natural, muted colours
If you’re looking for a more subtle summer makeover or an understated look, this is definitely the trend to go for. Interior designers are loving the natural look right now – rustic wooden furniture, bringing the outside in with plenty of greenery and succulents and so on. Choose muted colours which are found in nature, and natural materials which complement the environment. Even rattan is making a comeback!
A muted coral colour is extremely popular in the summer for fashion, as well as nail art and fashion accessories. It can easily be brought into the home and garden, too, for a Mediterranean feel.
